 Survivor's  SUCCESS  StorIES

"The time for me to leave the half-way house to live on my own was near and I was deathly afraid of moving into public housing.  Actually I refused and by the grace of God, there was Transitional Housing at the Crisis Shelter.  Without this place I don't know where I would be today.  I learned that love and respect don't come easy. You have to give it  and open up to receive it.  I have taken  something important from each person at the Shelter and I hope i never forget anything I learned there.  I learned and earned things I never knew existed-my life is wonderful because of this program!! I LOVE everyone there and will never forget them."

"The counselors at the Crisis Shelter are trained to know what to say.  Now my children know that there are many people who care about them, who SUPPORT them, who know that they were deeply hurt by someone who wasn’t ever supposed to hurt them.  They have a safety plan to follow when they are at their dad’s.  They feel SAFE.  They call the Crisis Shelter the SAFE PLACE."

"The first week in Shelter was very difficult.  My daughter was very confused and acting out and I was afraid I would give in and take him back.   I knew our lives were in danger but I wondered if I had the strength to start over.   Through the counseling and support I received at the CSLC, I began to realize that I could build a new life for us.  The depression I had lived with throughout my marriage began to dissipate and I began to feel empowered and optimistic about the future.  I enrolled back in college and have been named to the Dean’s List each semester.  I am working toward a degree in Social Work, so that one day I can look into the teary eyes of a broken woman and tell her without hesitation that she can have the life she dreams about; she can live without fear; she can find the strength to do it, because I too, was once a teary-eyed, broken woman."

"I have a lot on my plate now, but it is MY PLATE.  I am a 33 year old single mom raising 3 children who grew up in a house where dad hit mom.  I am proud to say My SPIRIT has not been broken, I am strong, smart and I plan on staying busy picking up the pieces because I WILL raise each of those children to be healthy, respective, honorable, loving individuals!  As long as we are living we are all survivors, some of us may have more challenges to survive but as long as YOU refuse to be a victim~~~ you ARE a survivor!  Thank you to the Crisis Shelter; they helped save my life and the lives of 3 very special children."
