SHOWING
OUR COMMUNITY PRIDE...Saluting those who make a difference.
DARLENE MEDURE

Crisis Shelter board
member, Darlene Medure, was recently selected as one
of five individuals honored by the New Castle News
who show community pride by their display of
volunteer work in our community.
Darlene grew up in New Castle in a
family of nine children. Her mother baked Syrian
bread for family and friends, then began baking for
the neighborhood and community.
Darlene acquired
this love of cooking from her mom and began cooking
at a young age. That love of cooking turned into a
family catering business with husband, Mattie, and
their four sons.
Darlene first learned about the Crisis Shelter when
volunteering at Contact Ears. “Their mission
touched my heart,” says Medure.
Darlene
is an amazing business woman and is involved in all
aspects of the CSLC and she and Mattie donate
delicious food regularly. In October they prepare a
free pasta dinner for the annual Domestic Violence
Rally. They prepare a wonderful meal for the annual
Auction and for four years have created “Dining For
Good Living”, an upscale dining fund-raiser that
sells out every year.
Darlene is a true visionary and gives tirelessly to
the community. Among other volunteer efforts are St Vitus Ladies Guild and Parish Council, the former
St. Francis Hospital, Hospice, South Side Business
Association and New Castle Community Y. We are
blessed to have someone of Darlene’s caliber devote
so much of her time, energy and resources to us.
Darlene, Congratulations—WE LOVE YOU!
